Indonesia Records Strong Population Growth as New Economic Rules Take Effect.

October 10, 2026 — Jakarta, Indonesia

Indonesia’s population has reached 1,121 citizens, with 61 active citizens and 68 new citizens recorded in the latest national update.

The figures show a notable increase from the previous population record of 1,033 citizens, 38 active citizens, and 16 new citizens. Indonesia has gained 88 citizens since the previous update, while the active population has increased by 23 citizens.

1,121−1,033=88

61−38=23

Based on the current national record, active citizens represent approximately 5.4% of Indonesia’s total population.

61÷1,121×100≈5.4%

The increase from the previous active-population rate of approximately 3.7% suggests that Indonesia is not only gaining citizens but also showing higher participation from its population.

Current Economic Laws

As Indonesia welcomes new citizens, businesses and workers must also consider the country’s current economic regulations.

The following laws are currently in effect:

The 25% work tax directly affects workers’ take-home income. Meanwhile, the 5% VAT applies to market activity and should be included when businesses calculate selling prices, margins, and operating costs.

The 20% default import tax is particularly important for companies that purchase goods from outside Indonesia. Imported products may become less competitive after tax costs are included, while locally produced goods may gain an advantage in the domestic market.

Indonesia’s minimum wage is currently set at 2.000 IDR, while the average salary stands at 1.932 IDR. The difference of 68 IDR means the average salary is currently below the national minimum wage.

2,000−1,932=68 IDR

This gap may affect recruitment decisions, company labour costs, and the ability of new citizens to find sustainable employment.

Growth Needs Jobs and Supply

The arrival of 68 new citizens creates an opportunity for Indonesia’s economy, but it also increases the need for available jobs, affordable food, and active businesses.

Recent market conditions have shown falling prices for wheat and Q1 Food. Wheat fell from 0.130 IDR to 0.099 IDR, while Q1 Food fell from 0.199 IDR to 0.100 IDR. These lower prices may help citizens access basic food more cheaply, but they can also pressure profit margins for agricultural companies and food producers.

Businesses such as Garuda Wheat Success Ltd., which recently opened agricultural production, released wheat to the market, and announced an agricultural job opportunity, may play an important role in absorbing part of Indonesia’s growing workforce.

For Indonesia to convert population growth into long-term national strength, new citizens will need clear access to work, training, companies, political organisations, military units, and reliable market information.
