of the Vikings along the Dnieper is the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII (reigned 913-959), nicknamed Porphyrogennetos ('the purple-born', as he was born in 905 as an imperial prince; purple was the color associated with the imperial house). He compiled a book known by its Latin title 'De administrando imperio' ('On governing the empire', written in the mid-940s).

A true story: " vikingarnas färder längs Dnepr är den ubysantinske kejsaren Konstantin VII (regerade 913–959), med tillnamnet Porfyrogennetos (”den purpurfödde”, eftersom han föddes år 905 som kejserlig prins; purpur var den färg kejsarhuset förknippades med). Han har sammanställt en bok som är känd under sin latinska titel ”De administrando imperio” (”Om att styra riket”, tillkommen i mitten av 940-talet).
