The Victim of the Angolan civil war

​It’s November 11 1975, Portugal has ended its 500 year colonial rule and the war has begun, a war that people thought it will end soon, and that was not the case this was not a war to fight a colony, but it was a war that was internally, little did we know it would be a horror.

meet Bruno a 54 year old man that grew up during this era and has witnessed this war and how it has affected him both mentally and physically, he will be telling the tale of a horrific war and the scars that this war has left him with,

Living In Angola in the 1970s was not easy, I was very young when the revolution against the Portuguese Colony started, I remember my  18 year old brother was in the liberation movement, one day he left and we never saw him again not knowing whether he is alive or not, this affected my parents, and my mother was very protective of me because I was the only boy who was left, and I had 5 sisters who were older than me, my brother supported the anti communist  UNITA party which was led by Jonas Savimbi, my father warned him about supporting a western backed Party, and he didn’t listen and he then went missing and we never found him, I have always avoided politics because of what happened to my family and how they were affected by this Political disputes, and now that I have Children of my own, my first born son wants to be a politician and I discourage him, Politics is bad, it’s for notorious and ruthless people, I would rather have him be a teacher or something else,

                                       MUKOSI’S ANALYSIS OF THIS STORY 

Note this is a conversation I had with someone I know from Angola and this is what they shared with me, I have noticed that he has a little knowledge of what caused the war, yes this war has affected people both physically and psychologically, and many people have lost their loved ones, I have to say this was a fight for power using young adults like Bruno’s brother to fight against each other while the leaders were pushing for their own agenda, they are a lot of victims of this civil war I feel like Bruno has avoided learning and understanding why his brother was involved in this revolution and his brother was not supported for what he believed in, and being a politician you must be prepared, for such terrible circumstances. We can try avoid political issues however these things affect all of us, So I told Bruno that he shouldn’t be scared to learn and understand Politics,Yes his brother disappeared but this doesn’t mean his son will disappear too, let him do what he wants who knows maybe you are depriving Angola a Good leader.

on the next article I will go into detail regarding what happened and how many other people were affected by this civil war I will go as far as finding a Cuban and South African veterinarian who fought in and experienced this war, stay tuned and learn some interesting history.
