TL;DR
I believe people are afraid to be more active, especially smaller communities.
Months of stocking from weps to ads can be erased in 1 battle and then the game turns instantly to p2w, you reach a point where even the access to 1 extra ad than the opponent can bring down the entire country and guarantee total victory.

Months of preparation are going in the trash in 10 hours. If you lose, the best you can do is delete the game.
Takes too much time to prepare for battle than the battle itself. The ratio could literally be 100 to 1. So it's not worthy for anyone to make a single move when you know that months spent can be instantly erased. And that answers why allies won't help you at 100%, because it will make them vulnerable and you won't be able to support them at the same scale after your war has ended bcs you will be dry.

The risk to reward is so expensive that literally makes you think 10 times every single move and that's mentally exhausting.
On the other hand we have the bullying from bigger and better equipped countries to smaller ones. I have seen and personally experienced blackmail for selling to other markets. "if you don't stop we will wipe you". These countries were built and are superpowers back then when the profits were massive right now the margins are so small that you are lucky if you make a 10%. How do you expect a small community to build up without economy when you have everything and don't let the rest play?

And not only that but you also blackmail them because they managed to sell something in your country and paid 50% tariffs as well? What I have seen in this game is something I have never seen before in other games and my 15 year experience in them. The greed around here looking to maximize profits even for 0.01g is pathetic. There are mechanics if you want to stop someone you don't have to blackmail with a wipe.

What I would personally suggest to make it more manageable is first of all increase by a lot the food consumption so you won't need so many adds and let your stock and economy be the the #1 factor of your success. Decrease the cost for building your warehouse so you can store much more food for a case of need or increase the storage granted without touching the gold. Add new kinds of buildings that give tremendous buffs for defense so smaller communities can protect themselves Switzerland style defense. I mean you can't expect from a small community to have an MU with at least 2 squads of the most needed terrains and at least 3-4 general squads fully equipped.

To finalize, early players have huge advantages, profit margins are very thin and new generation can not keep up, blackmail exists and everyone is feared for every move they make not to piss off a big power = wipe, greed from selfish players and rulers because they want to be #1 at everything, game mechanics themselves don't offer same opportunities to everyone, stock issues can turn the game very fast to p2w and war system can predict the winner from the 1st battle.
I'm sorry for ruining your article, you touched a sensitive nerve.

it would be interesting if medkits and ads had a date of expiration, lets say if you don't use them up in 1-2 months (or insert other value), they are gone from your inventory.

I dont think the boost themselves are an issue bcs you pay a lot to get them. The issue is that your energy and food bars take 1 day to be full but that lasts only for 1 round. If you want to continue you have to spend a lot of gold = money. Only the rich can do that. If you had more free uses like more free energy to spend, then your resources would end faster than your gold and you would trade that for resources and not boosts. Most of my fights I run out of gold and boosts than resources,i was staring at my full storage. Had to sell huge ammounts just to buy 1 boost.

This is 💯 true for small communities. There is a quote that defines everything: "To carry on war, three things are necessary: money, money, and yet more money". - Weapons, food, equipment, consumables buffs, MU buffs and an active player base...

New players in small communities can't have the luxury to dedicate to military otherwise their country will be wiped (or it is already). Also being able to have a Q5 factory to start making some money takes months or weeks if you save every penny for upgrades.

For example, my country is focus 100% in economy and still can't catch the superpowers or countries that started day 1. Similar to other small nations. This is not a complaining, is a reality and build military force takes months for us. For the creator of this article if you wanna have that experience again, you can dedicate to start revolutions and help countries that doesn't exist or are being bullied for superpowers. You will find fun again if war is what you're looking for.

As old player that played these games in golden times when communities had few thousand active players, when fighting for allies and your country was the biggest honour. But since the decline in population game is more and more individualistic ( even then game has more achivments and medals but everyone was doing their job in the most honourable way ) and these newer generations don’t have same perception of collective and community as older ones had…

Well, I think those feelings will return. All you need is a war against a tough enemy or to take the lead as MoD or CP. Then you definitely won’t be missing any excitement. ;)

Maybe the game is too 'individualistic'? There are far too many individual achievements and not enough collective ones offered in the game? I don't know.
Anyway, it's a good idea to marry a nice chick and have 10 kids, that could make up a decent military unit.
just don't smoke in front of them!
